Preface

I want to preface this with I am not a website expert nor an cybersec professional (yet) I'm just a person that likes helping out others. I may not even follow all the principles that i've learned 100% throughout the years of learning cybersec. However, its important to follow basic cybersec especially when youre making a website and putting yourself out there. Also, if I remember other things Ill add it.

Miscellaneous Tips

• Never store passwords in plain text; use password managers that use hashing algorithms to protect your login
• Remember to limit the exposure of personal information to only what is necessary and if you do, proceed with caution.
• If you include an email on your site obfuscate it using scripts to prevent scrapers!!(Click here to read more)
• Consider using email aliases or forwarding services to protect your primary inbox.

Metadata

Among many things, images have metadata. Images store information such as height, width, date, model, exposure settings, camera model, and even your gps location aka metadata.

• Strip metadata from images, PDFs, and other files before uploading them to your site.
• Use tools like ExifTool to remove metadata from images
